Parking Brake Woes in Mazda 3 and Mazda 6

A total of around 228,000 Mazda6
and Mazda3 vehicles of 2014, 2015, and 2016 models have been recalled due to
rising concerns about the vehicle’s parking brakes. It has been reported by The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the parking brakes on these
models may be susceptible to corrosion which could lead to serious safety
hazards for the car owners. This parking brake problem has become a serious
cause of concern for the car owners and they are questioning the automobile
company for the fall in the quality of the products.
The Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd
was responsible for the production of such faulty components and it is one of
the most renowned Automobile Parts Manufacturing companies in Japan. The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report further states that the
problem may possibly worsen in the winter season and under colder conditions.
The major cause of the problem is
the inappropriate sealing of the rear brake caliper protective boot causing the
parking brake system to fail to perform appropriately under the low-temperature
conditions. In the low-temperature conditions, water enters the brake caliper
which corrodes the brake actuator shafts thereby causing the diameter of the
shaft to increase. The increase in the diameter inhibits the sliding motion of
the shaft as a result of which it fails to operate properly.
The recall is assumed to affect the
2014-2016 Mazda3 models and 2014-2015 Mazda6 models and NHTSA claims about 227,814
of the faulty vehicles are registered in America. Mazda is currently working on
fixing the following issues and would probably mail recall notices to vehicle
owners in the month of August. The vehicle owners can take the problematic
vehicles to authorized Mazda Dealerships for service once they receive the
recall notice. The Mazda dealers will inspect the car for parking brake
actuator issues and would replace it on observing signs of corrosion.
Very good info...
