Ford Answers the Call for Upgraded Police Armored Vehicles
The world has definitely become a more dangerous place these
days. All you have to do is look at police forces around the country and the
decked out vehicles they drive today. Due to the complexity and
dangers of their everyday job, they have been forced to upgrade not just their
body armor but also their vehicles with stronger and more protective bullet
proof panels. The automaker Ford has stepped up to the challenge to help
protect police forces everywhere. This type of protection was not necessary
just a few years ago but that has all changed.
Ford reported that it will offer ballistic panels on
its Police Interceptor utility vehicles with protection up to
Department of Justice's National Institute of Justice standard Type IV. As
indicated by the standard, Type IV hard armor is tried against .30 gauge
reinforcement puncturing bullets with a mass of 10.8 grams and a speed of 30
feet per second. What’s even crazier is that police vehicles need protection
against such powerful penetrating rounds; however as Ford says, "they are
unfortunately becoming more common."
Currently there are Ford Police Interceptors that have some
of this type of protection but the latest upgrade will protect from higher
caliber rounds. “The fact that we design our Police Interceptors around officer
feedback is what has made them number one. Officers globally told us they
needed protection from armor piercing ammunition and we added increased
ballistic protection to an already great product – that’s continuous
innovation,” said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer, Ford Police Interceptors.
Maybe these bullet proof panels will soon be available to
the public as well. Wouldn’t it be great to have that type of protection from
all those crazy people suffering from road rage? Thrifty Auto Shipping will
be there as your go to car transport provider when these new protected vehicles
are made available to the public.
